The Knop Science Scholarship is a prestigious four-year, full tuition scholarship based on 2025-2026 tuition figures. The Ripon College Knop Science Scholars Board convenes each year at the beginning of the second semester.

The mission of the board is to identify high-achieving students who show the potential to contribute greatly to the science and mathematics departments at Ripon College as well as those who will benefit the most from special scholarly opportunities.

Invitations to apply will be sent to accepted students in early January 2025. Invited students will be asked to submit a five minute video describing their background, experiences, interests and/or career goals in an area of the sciences or mathematics.

This video must be submitted to the admission office by Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. CST.

The first step of the Knop Science Scholarship competition is a video project. Create a three to five minute video elaborating on your interest and experiences in STEM. You are highly encouraged to be creative in your video, express your personality, and do more than just talk to the camera.

Here are a couple of prompts to assist you:

  • What are your future career ambitions?
  • What inspires your interest in STEM related fields?
  • What experiences inside or outside the classroom have led you to pursuing your career interest?
  • What type of research are you currently participating in or would you like to participate in during college?

Your video must meet the following requirements:

  • The video must be between three and five minutes in length.*
  • Videos under three minutes and over five minutes in length will be disqualified.
  • At the beginning of your video, please tell us your name, the school you're currently attending, and the STEM majors you're considering in college.
  • You can only submit one video entry.

Once your video is complete, please share it with Associate Director of Admission, John Ingemann (ingemannj@ripon.edu).

  • Email your video to ingemannj@ripon.edu.
  • Share your video with John via Google Drive. Give him commenter permissions so he can download the video.
  • If you cannot share the video via email or Google Drive, email John and he will coordinate a third option with you.
  • Your video entry must be submitted by Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. CT to be considered.

After the Knop Scholars Committee watches all of the video entries, a selection of finalists will be invited to interview with Ripon College faculty.

  • Finalists will be notified by email and phone by Friday, March 14, 2025.
  • Finalist interviews will be conducted on campus or over Zoom after Ripon College's spring break between Monday, March 24, and Friday, April 4, 2025.
  • Your Ripon College admission counselor will work with you to schedule your finalist interview and help you register for a particular date and time.

After all the finalist candidates complete their interview on campus or virtually, the Knop Scholars Committee will announce the scholarship recipient by Friday, April 18, 2025, at the latest.

The recipient of the Knop Science Scholarship must commit to Ripon College to receive the scholarship. If our chosen recipient chooses to not attend Ripon College, we will offer the scholarship to our next choice finalist.
